Guidelines for the Letter to the Pastor

In order to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, it is required that you write a letter to our Pastor requesting the sacrament.  These letters will be presented to our Pastor at the Light Service.  Our Pastor does read each and every letter and sometimes quotes from them.

About Our Pastor

Our Pastor’s name is Reverend David Rider.  The salutation of your letter should be:

                 Dear Father David Rider:

About Writing the Letter

The letter must be typed.  If you do not have access to a printer, you may email the letter to the Religious Education office and we will print it for you.  Please ask us for instructions.

There must be no errors.  Use your spelling and grammar checkers, and ask an adult or teacher to proofread it for you.  Use complete sentences throughout the body of the letter.

Tell our Pastor a little about yourself, your family and your faith formation so far, either in Catholic School or Religious Education classes.

In the next paragraph tell the reasons you have for wanting to be confirmed in our Catholic Faith.

In another paragraph tell about the Saint’s name you chose for Confirmation and why you chose it.

Tell our Pastor about the experiences you had in community service.  Describe some of the ways you served and how you felt about it.

Conclude your letter with a handwritten signature (legible, not a scribble) with your FULL NAME in ink.  Your typed name should appear below your signature, so leave some space above your typed name and sign after you print your letter out.

What to do with the letter

Keep it neat until you hand it in.  Keep it open and flat.

DO NOT FOLD IT OR MAKE IT INTO A BOOKLET.

Do not put it into an envelope.

Turn it in as soon as possible and no later than the date below.

LETTERS ARE DUE NO LATER THAN MARCH 31, 2022.

Thank you for taking your time to do your very best.
